A world without fish!

The demand for quality seafood is on the rise around the world, and climate change and pollution are taking a toll on our seas and oceans. We are simply running out of fish. Imagine – favourites like sushi, wild smoked salmon and shrimp cocktail could become a thing of the past. We have to act now.

Taking the helm
to save our oceans

As Canada’s largest buyer and seller of seafood, Loblaw Companies delved deep into the challenges facing the world’s oceans and decided to lead change by launching our Sustainable Seafood Commitment.

We are committed to only selling sustainable seafood products by the end of 2013. We are not just talking about our own brands but every brand we carry. This includes canned, frozen, fresh, wild and farmed seafood products – as well as anything that contains seafood products such as vitamins, pet food and juices – will be 100% sustainably sourced.

The first comprehensive sustainable seafood commitment of its kind in Canada, our Sustainable Seafood Commitment is aligned with one of our five corporate social responsibility pillars, sourcing with integrity. We hope that this helps protect the future of our resources for generations to come.

What exactly is
sustainable seafood?

Sustainable seafood means that the seafood caught can maintain or increase its population in the future without harming the ecosystems from which it comes.
